Reese G., Dec 2, 2008, 1:24PM ESTHey, Skip! I'm looking for some help and I think you may well be the best source around here. I studied ceramics in college (still have all my old books) and have missed playing in the mud ever since. Two years ago, after more years than I care to count, I bought my own home and now have the space to set up a studio. Compliments of craigslist I have been able to put together most of the major hardware, including a kick wheel, two kilns (neither is digital but that's on my future list), and a small collection of molds. My son is preparing to build a pottery shed for me (There is much debate about the 'appropriateness' of naming the shed, POTsHEDZ (my idea) or CrackPots (his contribution)). But I don't know if I can wait for the spring to pour the foundation to get back to it. I have been trying to find some source for information on the 'average' time (on a percentage of the total mass) does it take for casting slip to dry. I realize this is a highly subjective question but I also know there are certain mathematical constants. So far, I have been unable to find anything even close to an answer. From reading your posts and profile it looks like you've been in the mud for a long time and have far amore experience than I. Can you give me some guidelines or direction?
Thanks loads for any help and support. -
